LACK of water supply, water billing systems and sewer spillages were among the challenges raised at a stakeholder meeting at the KwaBhaca Community Hall on Tuesday, January 20. The meeting involved ratepayers and the business sector.
The meeting was part of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality mayor Nomasomi Mshuqwana’s engagement with stakeholders.
It provided a platform to address service delivery concerns. Municipal manager Zamile Sikhundla indicated that the Infrastructure Development and Municipal Services (IDMS) section together with municipal officials and local leadership will conduct site visits to identify non-functional water valves to ensure fair and accurate water billing.
Mshuqwana acknowledged budget constraints facing the district municipality and reaffirmed municipal commitment and working with government stakeholders to address community needs.
During Mshuqwana’s visit to Mbizana this week, a new contractor for the upgrading of Ludeke Dam Pump Station and Nomlacu Water Works in Mbizana was announced. Upon completion, the project will improve water supply capacity and ensure sustainable access to potable water to communities.
Meanwhile, Mshuqwana also engaged Matatiele ratepayers and businesses. Among key issues raised were water leakages and shortages of potable water.
The challenge of the water billing system was also put in the limelight as well as damaged water meters and sewer spills in the streets.
Mshuqwana reassured the municipality of its commitment to resolve the challenges.
