FOOTBALLERS for Amatshipha FC from the rural village of Ngonyameni in EmaXesibeni (Mount Ayliff) celebrated victory after being crowned champions at the Eketshe Sports Festival last Sunday, July 13, at Jojo High School sports field in Dundee. Amatshipha FC said their win was a result of the dedication and hard work of players.

At the finals, Amatshipha FC defeated Junior Swallows FC 2-0.

Tournament organiser Anga Simbabalwe Jakuja congratulated Amatshipha FC players for their win as they walked away with a soccer kit, gold medals and a R6 500 cash prize.

Junior Swallows FC, in the second place of the tournament, won silver medals and a R3 500 cash prize.

The tournament was established in 2022 to honour the bravery and legacy of the 1976 youth who fought for freedom and equal rights in South Africa.

Jakuja said this was a celebration of youth empowerment, community pride and a promotion of healthy living through sports.
