RECEIVING keys to a brand new RDP house was the answer to many years of prayers for the rural family of Rasmeni in Mpoza under KwaBhaca, formerly known as Mount Frere.
The family of five was given the keys to the house by Umzimvubu Local Municipality mayor Zukiswa Ndevu on Tuesday, March 3.

This was part of commemorating Human Rights Month.
The family has been living in unsafe and temporary conditions in a shack exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Bulelwa Rasmeni, a family member, said that the handover of the newly built home marks a life changing moment, restoring their dignity, stability and security.
“We lived in fear whenever it rained or when strong winds blew through our shack. Receiving this beautiful home restores our safety and I am deeply grateful,” she said.
The municipality stated that an amount of R237 579 was invested in the housing project.
“As a municipality, we recognise the serious challenges associated with inadequate shelter, particularly during adverse weather conditions. We therefore remain firmly committed to providing permanent housing solutions that restore dignity, promote safety and improve the quality of life of our residents working with the Department of Human Settlements,” said Mayor Ndevu.
