AS part of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week, EG and Usher Memorial Hospital, based in Kokstad, conducted a breastfeeding workshop on Wednesday, August 6.

This was an effort to protect, promote and support successful breastfeeding practices.

The interactive workshop was aimed at empowering healthcare workers to support mothers to breastfeed successfully under the worldwide theme, ‘Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems’.

The workshop highlighted the need to strengthen the practical implementation of a mother-baby friendly initiative which is a global effort to create a supportive environment for breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding in healthcare facilities and beyond.

The workshop also offered a platform for healthcare workers and early childhood development facilitators to discuss existing challenges around prioritising breastfeeding in the Kokstad area.

Attendants brainstormed ideas on how sustainable breastfeeding support systems could be created and facilitated.

Commitments and strategies were discussed to inspire continued and effective breastfeeding support using current systems.

The day ended on a high note with healthcare workers feeling motivated to not give up in supporting, protecting and promoting successful breastfeeding in Kokstad.
