DA vows to hold government accountable

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal has assured the public of its commitment to hold the government accountable. This was said at the DA’s engagement session in Kokstad last Friday, August 22.

The party’s provincial leader and MEC for finance in the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) in KwaZulu-Natal, Francois Rodgers, conducted the engagement session with the business, traditional leadership and farming communities.

He was joined by Shara Singh, the DA political head for the constituency, who also serves as a member of parliament, as well as DA councillors from the constituency.

Rodgers outlined the work of the GPU and reaffirmed the DA’s commitment to ensuring accountable governance and service delivery. Pressing challenges were raised by stakeholders, from the ongoing impact of foot and mouth disease, abandoned and neglected state-owned buildings and facilities, as well as the collapse of service delivery by local municipalities.

Rodgers committed to return in his capacity as finance MEC to directly assess the facilities and determine how best these matters can be resolved. Singh gave a brief overview of the political landscape in the constituency and outlined a clear pathway to government for the DA in local municipalities ahead of next year’s local government elections.
