THE Institute of Local Government Management (ILGM) hosted a two-day launch of the Eastern Cape Provincial Elective Conference to mark an important milestone in strengthening leadership and governance within the province’s municipalities.

The launch at Wild Coast Sun in Mzamba positioned the ILGM as a knowledge hub and professional development platform for practitioners in the local government sector.

It was meant to enhance the institute’s profile among stakeholders through strategic engagement and effective communication.

ILGM elected its new Eastern Cape provincial leadership which included Mkhululi Nako of the Mbhashe Local Municipality as chairperson deputised by Zihle Gwala of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, Unathi Daniels of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality as secretary, and Simlindile Nodo from the Blue Crane Local Municipality as deputy secretary. 

Themba Mbukushe from the Sarah Baartman District Municipality was elected as treasurer.

The event brought together municipal managers, senior administrators, leaders, academics and local government practitioners from across the province as they engaged on meaningful topics and shared innovations and strategies to strengthen local governance.

Newly elected chairperson Mkhululi Nako expressed his gratitude and commitment to advancing the institute’s objectives.

Additional members elected include: Zolani Pungwani of the Walter Sisulu Local Municipality; Vuyiseka Mviko of the Mnquma Local Municipality; Shirley Batyi of the Port St Johns Local Municipality and Siyabulela Mbedla from the Matatiele Local Municipality.
