THE Harry Gwala District Municipality on Thursday, August 14, hosted a special inaugural council meeting to officially welcome and recognise Nkosi Thanduxolo Baleni as a traditional leader serving within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
The meeting was held in accordance with Section 81 of the Municipal Structures Act, the meeting marked a significant step in strengthening ties between traditional leadership and local government in the district.
The event underscored the important role of traditional leaders to play in promoting social cohesion, preserving heritage, and driving community development.
INkosi Baleni was sworn in by the municipal manager Gamakulu Sineke who described the appointment as a privilege for the municipality.
“We are honoured to have someone of his calibre join the Harry Gwala council,” said Sineke.
Municipal deputy mayor Nosisa Jojozi extended a warm welcome to Nkosi Baleni, highlighting the value of traditional leadership in governance and rural development.
“We are honoured to work alongside with Nkosi Baleni as we strive to build a united, inclusive, and prosperous district. Traditional leaders are the custodians of our culture and vital partners in service delivery and community empowerment,” she said.
In his address, Nkosi Baleni expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to advance the interests of the people of Harry Gwala district.
