THE Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in KwaZulu-Natal led by MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa has concluded its vaccinations of cloven-hoofed animals against foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks in the Harry Gwala district.
Animals have been inoculated across four local municipalities within the district from 386 dip tanks and farms.
The teams are yet to conclude vaccinations on farms under the land redistribution for agricultural development in this district.
Harry Gwala was the second district to have completed its vaccinations following the Ugu district from February 26 to March 4.
The department has announced plans to vaccinate a pig farm near Dannhauser in the Amajuba district following positive cases of FMD.
The aim is to contain the disease and reduce the viral load.
