FINISHING this year’s Comrades Marathon would be a huge milestone for the XJ Athletics Club runner Vakele ‘VK’ Jamile based in EmaXesibeni (Mount Ayliff).

Jamile of the rural village of Ndakeni has been running since 2021, mainly for fun. 

“I started running as a hobby but later my interest increased to a level where I started participating in big races under XJ Athletics Club,” he said.

He said running requires time for training hard, a coach to give proper guidance in running techniques, as well as a nutritionist to advise about what to eat.

Jamile has back-to-back medals to show for his running journey. He appreciated the support he has been getting from his family and the club.

This year’s Comrades Marathon will take place on June 14.
