THE donation of school uniforms in Mount Currie Senior Secondary School, Kokstad, has retained the dignity and confidence of 10 learners who received brand new uniforms from the KZN MEC for Finance Francois Rodgers.
On Monday, February 23, Rodgers met the school principal Jeffry Solomon, school governing body and the local community.
His visit to the school was not only to donate school uniforms but also to strengthen relations with the school since he has adopted it.
He said adopting the school forms part of the cabinet’s initiative to ensure socio-economic hurdles do not hinder education performance.
The MEC’s donation drive took place in the iLembe district last week where three schools were visited.
In the Harry Gwala district, Mount Currie Senior Secondary was the only school visited to ensure learners attend school with pride, eliminating the embarrassment linked with inappropriate uniforms.
He applauded school teachers and management for the excellent 2025 matric pass rate as school principal Solomon set a target of over 93% for this year’s matric class.
Solomon was pleased with the involvement of the community and governing body towards the functionality of the school.
“Since we are a no-fee school, we are facing a financial challenge. To address that, the school is conducting fundraising campaigns,” he said. He appreciated the MEC’s visit and said that it will motivate the school to do better in terms of academics.
