Baxter Drive benefits the needy

THE annual Baxter Drive hosted by Helping Hands NPO in memory of the late founding member James Patrick Baxter once again brought smiles and relief to families in need. In alignment with the mission of giving back to the community, this year’s drive provided 22 families with grocery hampers valued at R500 each. Helping Hands was established in 2019, and it has grown into a vital community pillar. Over the years, the organisation has provided school uniforms, hosted Christmas parties for vulnerable children and elderly residents, built homes, and supported countless families. The Baxter Drive initiative has become one of the NPO’s flagship outreach projects rooted in the values Baxter championed.

His wife, Millicent Baxter, attended the event and delivered a touching speech, honouring her husband’s legacy. She reflected on his passion for uplifting others and encouraged the community to carry forward the work he started. The Baxter Drive was made possible through Helping Hands’ biggest annual fundraiser, the Spring Festival, which takes place every year in The Avenue Park, Kokstad. The upcoming Spring Fest 2025 will be held on October 4, from 7am to 6pm. There will be fun activities for all. Festival-goers can support the cause by purchasing pre-sold bingo tickets at R50 and pre-sold raffle tickets at R30. Helping Hands is calling on the public to support the festival this year, as every contribution directly enables initiatives like the Baxter Drive to reach more families in need.
