AN online drive to assist young people to apply for the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure internship programme was taken to the rural district of Alfred Nzo in KwaBhaca (Mount Frere) this week.
A team of officials from the department have been on the ground to provide hands-on support for applicants, guiding them through the online recruitment platform and helping them understand the application requirements.
This was the department’s broader commitment to promote accessible, transparent and fair recruitment processes, particularly for young people who often face difficulties in accessing digital platforms.
Umzimvubu Local Municipality mayor Zukiswa Ndevu welcomed the initiative and said that the programme opens doors for career development and skill-building opportunities for the youth.
She cautioned young people not to fall prey to scammers who will take chances by charging money for their assistance.
“The internship application process is free of charge. Young people are urged to remain vigilant and not fall victim to scams or fraudulent individuals who may claim to offer assistance in exchange for payment,” she said.
The advertised internship programme forms part of ongoing efforts to empower young people, reduce unemployment and build a capable and skilled youth that contributes to local and national development, the Umzimvubu Local Municipality stated.
