AN alleged killer (27) will spend the weekend in custody following his arrest for the murder of a victim (38) in Qunu, Mthatha.

The victim was murdered with a steel chair on November 26.

It was reported that he had a quarrel with the suspect at a local tavern. He later went home to sleep, but the suspect followed him and assaulted him with a steel chair. He was later taken to hospital and succumbed to his injuries.

A murder case was opened, but the National Prosecuting Authority declined to prosecute due to insufficient evidence.

The suspect was arrested on January 15 and appeared before the Bityi Magistrate’s Court on the following day.

On Monday, January 26, the case was remanded to February 4 for a formal bail application.
