THE refurbishment of roads in the Kokstad area, currently underway, will bring relief to motorists who have been concerned about poor road infrastructure.

The construction of a road connecting Bhongweni and Shayamoya, via Marikana, is underway. The Greater Kokstad Municipality said it will soon announce contractors for the rehabilitation of Shayamoya roads Phase 4B in Ward 4, the upgrading of Polar Park roads and crossings in Ward 7 as well as the Franklin roads upgrade Phase 1. The municipality said that the road construction projects form part of the council’s initiative to rehabilitate road networks.

Municipal mayor Lwanda Madikizela, at this week’s media briefing, said that in this current financial year, the municipality has prioritised road rehabilitation projects based on the critical nature of the infrastructure and will ensure that funds are allocated for essential repairs and upgrades.

He committed to improve public safety, security and the quality of life through improved road infrastructure.

“We have introduced a contractor for the rehabilitation of Murray Street, from Avenue to the entrance of Shayamoya via Mount Currie High School,” he said.

He added that the construction of roads results in road closures through stop-and-go.
