Mayor declares war on lawlessness

ANDILE MOSHOESHOE

“WE can never be a vagrant’s town…” This was a stern warning issued by the Greater Kokstad Municipality mayor Lwanda Madikizela at a media briefing on Wednesday, September 17.

He declared war on criminality and said the municipality intends to meet SAPS to brainstorm strategic moves to tackle crime.

He expressed appreciation for the good working relationship the municipality had with private security companies.

He also said that the fight against cleanliness of the Kokstad town had already been won.

Madikizela called for residents to play a leading role in fighting crime and strengthening municipal by-laws to tackle the issue of public urinating in the CBD.

“We know police are working tirelessly to fight crime, but our involvement as communities is also important for an easy win in this battle as most of those criminals are our children, brothers and relatives,” he added while condemning the behaviour of people that throw dirty objects in the streets.
