THE recent two-day traditional health summit was a platform for traditional health practitioners, municipalities and government sector departments to collaborate and exchange knowledge, creating awareness on related legislative frameworks governing the sector. The platform also promoted the safe and effective use of traditional medicine. It brought together a number of stakeholders, including local municipalities, Abanyangi Be Mveli, traditional leaders, as well as government departments.
Eunice Diko of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality said that the municipality will give all the necessary support to traditional health practitioners to ensure that indigenous herbs and knowledge thereof are preserved and protected.
She also spoke strongly against the widespread harvesting of herbs without regulation.
Inkosi Sigcau urged the summit to shun the undermining of indigenous traditional forms of worship and healing.
