AS their way of commemorating Women’s Month, women in law enforcement agencies in the Alfred Nzo district kickstarted a series of anti-crime initiatives in Matatiele on Tuesday, August 5.
The integrated initiative brought together SAPS, SANDF, traffic police, immigration officers and other key agencies in ensuring safety and visibility of law enforcement.
The initiative was started with a parade of women in uniform from the Matatiele town hall to the offices of the Traffic Department. This was to honour the strength and contribution of women in law enforcement across the Alfred Nzo district.
SAPS Alfred Nzo district commissioner Major General Nompumelelo Majikijela said the aim was to promote safety and boost visibility of law enforcement in the Matatiele area. She encouraged unemployed young women to consider careers available within law enforcement.
“We want to give young women a purpose and direction. They should see that choosing to serve and protect communities is always a good choice,” she said. Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Department of Transport female traffic officers along with other female law enforcement officers from other entities launched the Women’s Month women-led operations across the province.
The department said female officers will conduct a series of operations in the month of August to mark the month dedicated to women.
