 A WOMAN (23) allegedly beaten with a sjambok by her boyfriend died in a hospital in Qumbu last Saturday, March 7.

It was reported that the woman and the man (25), who is a suspect, had a conflict that ended with her being severely assaulted with a sjambok.

Captain Welile Matyolo said that when police arrived at the hospital to enquire about the assaulted woman, they found her already dead.

“Police contacted the suspect who confirmed that the deceased was his girlfriend. He said on that fateful night they had a conflict that ended up with him severely assaulting her with a sjambok all over her body,” he stated. He said that the suspect was immediately arrested and charged for murder.

Police OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Norman Modishana has condemned the brutal murder of the victim and reiterated his stance that gender-based violence has no place in societies.
