A SCHOOL principal of an independent school in Kokstad has rewarded learners who excelled in academics, sport, leadership, reading and creativity.

Passionate and driven, Principal Mpendulo Mtilwa of the Power of Love Primary School established a public benefit organisation called Gear up for Success to foster positive change in schools.

The organisation provides essential support gear for learners to thrive in school and also promotes sustainability.

On March 6, the organisation awarded primary school top achievers to encourage an environment where both learners and teachers thrive. The top achievers were from three schools: Xolo Xopo Primary, Kokstad Public Primary and Kokstad Primary. They received tablets, school bags and first aid kits.

The donation of tablets, according to Mtilwa, was a symbol of creating a culture that embraces growth and high-quality education for learners.

The donation of school bags was a sign of hope for the future, while first aid kits were meant to keep learners safe.

“I have witnessed schools operating with limited resources. I started the organisation to make sure that primary schools have an appropriate learning environment, while also celebrating their successes,” he said. He added that the organisation will increase the number of schools benefitting from the awards. He also thanked the sponsors for their support.
