NEXT month’s by-elections will see Ward 14 in Mbizana under the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality become a hub of political activity as various parties embark on campaigns.

The ward councillor post has been vacant after the passing of Thulani Dlamini who was buried on January 3.

Preparations to conduct by-elections in the ward on March 18 are underway with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

A voter registration drive for the by-elections was conducted on January 31 and February 1. The by-elections will take place in six wards across KZN and the Eastern Cape. These include Ward 32 (Buffalo City Municipality), Ward 7 (Dr Beyers Naude Municipality), Ward 14 (Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Municipality), Ward 12 (AbaQulusi Municipality), Ward 7 and Ward 20 (Nongoma Municipality).

Last Sunday, the ANC conducted a voter-mobilisation drive in Ward 14 to garner voter support ahead of the by-elections.

The party’s election team was in the area for the community to vote for a ward candidate and to ensure that the party emerges victorious.
