Mtolo returns to key ANC roles

Andile Moshoeshoe

FORMER provincial secretary of the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal Bheki Mtolo has returned to the key decision-making structure of the party.

He has been appointed to the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) as well as to the influential Provincial Working Committee (PWC).
His reappointment comes despite a reduction in the size of the provincial leadership structure, compared to the previous Provincial Task Team (PTT) led by Jeff Radebe. That period was marked by significant political realignments, with Mike Mabuyakhulu emerging as a central figure within the PTT.

Mtolo’s return has effectively curtailed the aspirations of certain factions within his home region of Harry Gwala where expectations had mounted around his possible political exit. Renowned for his incisive oversight and unwavering stance on governance issues, Mtolo has remained a vigilant and assertive presence, working closely with regional leadership to confront systemic challenges.
Meanwhile, the newly constituted interim provincial leadership comprises Mabuyakhulu, Siboniso Duma, James Nxumalo, Siphile Mdaka, Bongi Sithole-Moloi and Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi.
Several prominent figures have been omitted from the new provincial structure. However in the Harry Gwala region, the interim structure includes: Cynthia Ntabeni (convenor), Zamo Nxumalo (deputy convenor), Qiniso Mnguni (coordinator), Ntuseng Duma (deputy coordinator) and treasurer Sindi Msomi.
