THE safety of meter taxis operating in the Kokstad area remains a major concern. The shooting of a meter taxi driver (43) and his friend on August 18 was condemned by the Kokstad Meter Taxi Association chairperson Soweto Ntakaza. The pair was found dead in a green Honda Ballade vehicle in Shayamoya at midnight, with gunshot wounds to their heads.
The incident occurred just after another meter taxi driver was reportedly attacked and injured in July.
Ntakaza has called for more security to safeguard the sector, especially at midnight.
“It’s not business as usual in the sector. These disturbing attacks make us worry because the job is not only benefitting our families but the community,” he said.
Police confirmed ongoing investigations.
