Club uses sport to fight crime

A FOOTBALL club based in KwaBhaca has taken the initiative to use sport as a tool for youth development, crime prevention and drug awareness by engaging young people in constructive activities.

Eleven Attackers FC hosted the 2nd Annual KwaBhaca Developmental Tournament last Saturday, August 30, at Sophia Park Sports Ground.

The initiative was also meant to combat substance abuse. Coach Nkqubela Mfundzo outlined the purpose of the tournament and said that it focused on nurturing young talent.

He said the event was hosted after he noticed a high number of criminal activities and substance abuse by young people.

He said there was a high rate of school dropouts among young boys.

“We strongly believe that by involving young people in sport, we will reduce the school dropout rate and have a meaningful impact in the lives of young people,” he said.

The tournament was played by U13 and U15 footballers from seven soccer teams.
