AS part of commemorating Oliver Reginald Tambo Month, a wreath-laying ceremony was conducted this week at Tamboville Cemetery in Ekurhuleni. Among the dignitaries was the mayor of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, Daniswa Mafumbatha, who travelled all the way from Mbizana to honour the legacy of the anti-apartheid politician.
Tambo was born in Mbizana. The month of October has been set aside to honour his legacy through community-building programmes and initiatives to empower communities. Meanwhile, on October 23, Nelson Mandela Museum in the Eastern Cape partnered with the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality and Alfred Nzo District Municipality to host the OR Tambo Children’s Legacy programme under the theme: OR Tambo – Legacy in Action at the Mbizana Civic Centre.
The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture as well as Old Mutual formed part of the programme that involved five schools.
School learners participated in oral presentations, praise singing and book reviews reflecting on the life and legacy of OR Tambo.
