POLICE in Bityi near Mthatha in the Eastern Cape established investigations over the death of a man (45) who was allegedly strangled to death last Friday, October 10.
A suspect (37) has been arrested.
Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo said that the victim’s body was found in a Toyota Quantum vehicle at around 4am, on the same day.
“It was alleged that the intoxicated victim was asleep in the vehicle during a wedding ceremony when the suspect used a shoelace to strangle him to death. Preliminary investigations led to the recovery of the deceased’s personal belongings from the suspect. The suspect claimed that revenge was the motive behind his actions as he was once stabbed by the deceased and survived,” said Matyolo.
Matyolo said that the suspect, who was unable to communicate without the assistance of a sign language expert, appeared in the Bityi Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face a charge of murder.
