The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Kokstad extends its deepest condolences to the family of Lathitha Mtolo (7) following confirmation that the human remains recovered during the search have been positively identified as hers.
This is a heartbreaking outcome that has deeply affected not only the Mtolo family but the entire Kokstad community, which has hoped and prayed for a different ending since Lathitha’s disappearance on February 26, 2026.
While the family now has certainty, the focus must immediately shift to ensuring that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
The DA calls on SAPS, working together with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), to pursue this investigation with urgency, professionalism and determination. Every lead must be thoroughly investigated, every piece of evidence carefully examined and every person implicated held fully accountable before the courts.
Those responsible for this horrific crime must face the full might of the law.
The DA will continue to monitor developments closely and support every lawful effort to secure justice for Lathitha and her family. We also reiterate the urgent need to strengthen the fight against crimes committed against women and children and to ensure that perpetrators know they will be found, prosecuted and convicted.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Lathitha family during this unimaginably difficult time.
