SIPHELELE NKETO
HARRY Gwala District Municipality has paid a final goodbye to Councillor Siphiwe Bekwa who was laid to rest in Sbomvini on May 17.
He was remembered for his commitment to the people of the Harry Gwala district and beyond. He worked for various organisations including the SANDF, and later became a bodyguard to political figures before he took up the responsibility to work in parliament in 2014.
In 2019, he took his oath of office as councillor and executive committee member in the Harry Gwala District Municipality. In that same year, he was given a position to be portfolio head for the Water Services Department. In this role, he worked directly on ensuring that communities had access to reliable water services, a critical part of the district municipality mandate to protect lives during disasters and everyday challenges.
His funeral service was attended by prominent figures. Among them were local mayors and the former minister of COGTA Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
