AN explosive live podcast dominated by conversations around issues of governance, projects and claims of misuse of funds recently had five Harry Gwala district mayors in the hot seat.
Podcaster Mlamuli ‘Mbomvu’ Ngcobo had the mayor of the Harry Gwala District Municipality Zamo Nxumalo as his first guest to unpack matters of governance and service delivery. Other guests included Umzimkhulu Local Municipality mayor Jabu Msiya, Greater Kokstad Municipality mayor Lwanda Madikizela and Johannes Phumani Phungula Local Municipality mayor Bathobile Ngubo.
The platform allowed the mayors to explain their administrative turnaround infrastructure development as they responded to questions with composure, clarity and humility.
Concerns from podcast viewers were unfiltered and uncompromising as they wanted answers on service delivery and raised concerns about governance within the municipalities.
Mayor Nxumalo commended the platform, saying that it was more important to strengthen accountability within government institutions.
“We welcome working relations with the media because they make our work easier and help us reach communities and areas we may not have fully reached ourselves, particularly because our district is geographically vast,” he said.
