Setting the tone at tourism event

A RANGE of businesses in the tourism sector set their standards high with professional displays at Africa’s Tourism and Travel Indaba in Durban this week. The event was themed ‘Unlimited Africa: Growing Africa’s Tourism Economy’. It delivered significant economic benefits to the sector since tourism remains the most powerful economic driver in Africa.

Despite uncertainties, the sector continues to play its role in job creation as Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality mayor Daniswa Mafumbatha stated. Mafumbatha was among the municipal delegates who attended the event to showcase the rich heritage of Mbizana and vibrant culture.

She spoke about the municipality’s commitment in unlocking opportunities that can attract investment and position the area as a destination of choice.

She mentioned the support of small establishments to make the area a tourism potential.

She further described the travel indaba as a tourism platform that created network opportunities for the municipality to thrive and showcase its rich history.

“Partnerships are forged to grow and sustain the sector in the area of Mbizana,” she said.

Nosisa Garane, the founder of an accommodation facility in Mbizana, was pleased to attend the event and called for more support for the sector to grow and unlock opportunities.

Meanwhile other municipalities like Ingquza Hill Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape showcased their offerings to potential tourists and investors. There was also a display of crafters that symbolised isiMpondo to attract international and local buyers.
