THE annual Umzimvubu Fashion Show set to take place on March 13 at KwaBhaca Town Hall will mark the event’s 10-year anniversary—a decade of empowering local designers and models, while strengthening the creative industry within the Umzimvubu community.

The fashion show has grown into a flagship programme that provides a credible platform for local designers to showcase their work through local models. It also forms part of the municipality’s broader efforts to promote and develop local talent, stimulate the creative economy and create sustainable opportunities for young people.

The municipality said the key pillar of the programme’s success is the collaborative partnership with Walter Sisulu University (WSU), which provides professional training and development to support designers.

“Through this partnership, the local creative is equipped with industry-relevant skills, technical expertise and mentorship that enhance the quality and competitiveness of their designs,” the municipality stated, and added that this collaboration ensures that designers are not only showcasing their talent but also receive structured development to thrive beyond the runway.

One of the designers, Lulama Maka, who previously showcased her work at the Umzimvubu Fashion Show, went on to feature at the prestigious David Tlale Show, a remarkable achievement that demonstrates the calibre of talent within the Umzimvubu jurisdiction.

“The Umzimvubu Fashion Show is more than a celebration of style. It is a celebration of opportunity, creativity and the power of local talent,” said Umzimvubu Local Municipality mayor Zukiswa Ndevu.

Municipal Manager Tobela Nota said the programme reflects the municipality’s administrative commitment to sustainable development, youth empowerment and local economic development.

Last year’s fashion show in EmaXesibeni was a night of elegance, style and beauty as fashion designers showcased their creations under the theme: “Celebrating the impact of silhouette, lines and colour”.
