Mayor accelerates water crisis action

IN an effort to address the water crisis in the Alfred Nzo district, Mayor Tsileng Sobuthongo launched a directive for immediate action to address critical service delivery backlogs.

She emphasised the administration’s priority to stabilise governance and foster a people-centred economy.

She acknowledged that water is the district’s most significant challenge. She committed to find sustainable solutions to prevent infrastructure vandalism and diesel theft that continue to handicap service delivery efforts. On February 18, she led a meeting in EmaXesibeni’s municipal offices with the municipal mayoral committee, senior management as well as Alfred Nzo Development Agency board to ensure the continuity of essential infrastructure projects.

To improve operational efficiency, Sobuthongo mentioned the need for faster turnaround times regarding customer complaints and proactive engagement to mitigate service delivery protests.

Meanwhile in a meeting with Cogta MEC Zolile Williams in Mthatha on February 19, Sobuthongo raised the challenges facing Ward 27 in Mbizana, which include a bridge between Ward 5 and Ward 27, access roads that link wards, shortage of water as well as the incomplete tar road to Nkantolo.

The meeting was attended by various mayors in the Eastern Cape.
