IN celebration of the birthday of Anele ‘Ace’ Mbele, deputy president of XJ Athletic Club and respected businessman, runners from Kokstad and surrounding areas took part in a special Birthday Run.

Last Saturday, January 24, runners had to choose whether to participate in a 20km, 30km or 40km.

According to Bonginkosi Mbotshwa, the XJ Athletics Club spokesman, the Birthday Run was more than just a normal race and was properly planned with rehydration stations for runners. Mbele appreciated the support, saying: “I started running during the era of Covid-19 due to the stress of lockdown.”

He said over the years he has learnt invaluable lessons through running.
