AN elderly woman (71) in Mqanduli, Eastern Cape, was shot dead in a brutal attack at her home in the Makhenkesi Township last Saturday, January 17.
It was reported that the woman was with her grandchild (12) when the attacker entered the house at around 7pm and fatally shot her in the upper body.
The child was left unharmed. The motive for the attack forms part of police investigations, said SAPS spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in tracing the suspect to contact Mqanduli SAPS detective head Lieutenant Colonel Ngqeleni on 083 984 4226, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
Information can also be shared at any nearest police station, and callers may remain anonymous.
