THE deputy minister in the presidency for Monitoring and Evaluation, Seiso Mohai, led an oversight monitoring visit to the OR Tambo District Municipality this week to assess progress in the implementation of disaster relief measures.
This was after the devastating June floods hit parts of the Eastern Cape and affected Mthatha the most.
The floods claimed 103 lives.
Mohai, accompanied by the delegation, evaluated government interventions aimed at restoring infrastructure and providing support to affected communities.
During the visit, he inspected the Mass Care Centre at OR Tambo Hall and the Thornhill Water Treatment Works that suffered significant damage during the floods.
The delegation also visited the Maydene Farm where the Department of Human Settlements is building temporary residential units to accommodate displaced families.
