Top-tier learners awarded

SHAYAMOYA Area Secondary School in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal, proved to be amongst the best schools in the province, producing good matric results. This was witnessed during the back-to-school excellence awards at Bongweni Youth Centre last Friday, January 30.

The school walked away with a number of awards and was announced as the Best Performing School in the Kokstad area.

This was despite the fact that the school is located in the township area of Shayamoya, facing an infrastructure deficit.

Apart from the challenges the township faced, Shayamoya Area Secondary School continues to be featured amongst top performing schools in KZN. The awards were hosted by the Greater Kokstad Municipality to recognise and honour excellence. The event grabbed the attention of high-ranking officials and political leadership who attended in huge numbers to honour the outstanding performance of learners and schools.

The Greater Kokstad Municipality mayor Lwanda Madikizela congratulated all winners and urged learners to keep in mind the belief of former President Dr Nelson Mandela that education is a key instrument to shape the country developmentally and economically.

Madikizela went on to encourage those who did not perform well by saying: “it is not the end of the world.”
