MORE than 50 community members of Ngxabaxha under KwaBhaca (Mount Frere) participated in a 10km Chief Dumakude Fun Run organised to address the problematic crime rate terrorising the rural community.
Since the event, held on Tuesday, June 16, coincided with the commemoration of Youth Day, the most important message according to organiser, Siya Diko, was to the youth, discouraging them from engaging in crime activities.
Diko mentioned stealing as the most problematic crime in the community. He said he decided to use the day of youth commemoration to get the community’s attention to address the scourge.
“The fun run was meant to address drug abuse and crime, and also to promote health and unity,” he explained, adding that presentations by SAPS, traditional leaders, religious leaders, medical teams and members of community policing forums were made to raise awareness of key issues.
Winners received prizes and medals.
