REPORTER

A CASE involving three murder suspects in the Sindiso Magaqa case was postponed to November 6 for the state to present a new application.

The state this week advised the Pietermaritzburg High Court that it would bring forward an application in terms of Section 73 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act with regard to the legal representation of the second accused, said Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the NPA regional spokesperson for the KZN division.

The three suspects were charged in connection with the murder of former ANC Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Jethro Magaqa. Magaqa was killed in July 2017 in Umzimkhulu.

Among the suspects who appeared in court for the matter was former Umzimkhulu Local Municipality manager Zweliphansi Skhosana.

The suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, malicious injury to property, and defeating the administration of justice.

Another suspect who was involved in the case made Section 220 admissions in July and was subsequently sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment. Ramkisson-Kara said the suspect will now testify as a state witness.
