POLICE OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Norman Modishana has welcomed the 15-year direct imprisonment sentence handed down by the Mthatha Regional Court on February 10 against a suspect (28) of Waterfall Park in Mthatha.
The suspect was found guilty of raping a woman (30) in May last year.
It was reported that the victim was raped while at home. The suspect was later arrested and denied bail. Police encouraged victims of gender-based violence to continue reporting cases so that offenders can be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, another rapist (36) from Mthatha was jailed for 18 years for the rape of a boy (8) in April 2024.
The suspect was in custody until he was convicted of the crime.
