AN arrest was made in last month’s case of kidnapping, robbery and money laundering involving an Road Accident Fund (RAF) beneficiary of Ngolo in Libode.

The male victim (30) was abducted from his home in Libode by four unknown men in April and taken to a forest where he was tortured to reveal his banking app password(s).

His money was then withdrawn from his bank account, while a separate amount was transferred to the suspect’s bank account.

The police investigation into the case led them to the Western Cape where a suspect (40) was arrested. Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo said that investigations are at an advanced stage as part of arresting the remaining suspects. Police OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Norman Modishana has applauded the Libode detectives for their tireless work and urged them to leave no stone unturned in bringing all those involved to book. The arrested suspect appeared before the Libode Magistrates Court on Monday, May 25, for charges of kidnapping, robbery and money laundering and his case was postponed to Monday, June 1, for a formal bail hearing.
