THE Ntabankulu Local Municipality council in the Eastern Cape welcomed its new mayor, Vuyokazi Matwasa, who assumed the role on Monday, February 9, after being elected in a special council sitting.
Matwasa, who worked previously as the municipal speaker, filled the position left by Tsileng Sobuthongo who last week became the executive mayor for the Alfred Nzo District Municipality.
Sobuthongo succeeded Nomasomi Mshuqwana who had been in the position of district mayor since the resignation of former executive mayor Vukile Mhlelembana in December last year.
The Ntabankulu Local Municipality also elected Nomvula Kinase as its new speaker. She previously served as a municipal executive committee member for the council. These changes in the municipality were warmly welcomed by the African National Congress in the Alfred Nzo region.
ANC Alfred Nzo regional spokesperson Lungisile Mzanywa said that Matwasa and Kinase serve in the ANC Regional Executive Committee and the party has full confidence in their leadership.
“The ANC wishes them well in their new responsibilities and has given clear marching orders in all of its deployees to prioritise service delivery and development of the people,” said Mzanywa.
