MORE than a year has passed and the post of Chief Financial Officer at the Alfred Nzo District Municipality still remains vacant.
The vacancy was raised as a concern by Mayor Tsileng Sobuthongo who emphasised the urgency in filling the post for financial stability and strengthening of service delivery. The position was vacant from March 31 after former CFO Unathi Mahlasela resigned. Municipal spokesperson Luncedo Walaza said recruitment processes to permanently fill the post are underway. Sakhiwo Nelani was previously acting in the post.
However, this week, the municipality announced the appointment of Mthokozisi Khambula as the new acting Chief Financial Officer for a period of three months. He will remain in the post until August 8, if no appointment is made.
He was appointed for the post during the 18th special council sitting on May 12, convened by municipal speaker Sixolile Mehlomakulu.
Khambula worked before as municipal chief risk officer. Nelani has been moved to the post of acting director in Strategic Governance. Meanwhile during sitting, the council approved urgent requests for bridging finance and interventions for additional funding, and received the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) report on the ANDM and ANDA mid-term assessment.
