POLICE action into the shooting incident in Qumbu town on July 24 resulted in the arrest of three suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen stock. Captain Welile Matyolo said the three suspects linked to the shooting incident were found in a vehicle where there were also unlicensed 9mm pistols with erased serial numbers, eight live rounds of ammunition, a bullet-proof vest, balaclava and stock removal receipt. Captain Welile Matyolo said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were on a stock theft operation.

“Suspects led police to the Bajodini area where 13 cattle were recovered and another suspect was arrested. The cattle were stolen in Sulenkama,” said Matyolo. He added that police also found a sheep carcass in Bajodini.

Police OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Norman Modishana has applauded Qumbu police for their determination in fighting stock theft as it remains one of the priority crimes.
