A LUSIKISIKI man (48) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a teenage girl (13) in 2018.
The Lusikisiki Regional Court on Tuesday, August 12, also declared him to be unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
The victim was attacked and raped while she was in a spaza shop. A case was opened, which led to the arrest of the suspect in 2019. The suspect was later released on bail, said Captain Welile Matyolo.
Police OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Norman Modishana has commended the tireless work by the investigating officer Sergeant Qulu who gathered sufficient evidence to secure the conviction.
“This is a lesson to the world that incidents of sexual assaults on women and children will not be tolerated,” General Modishana said.
