THE initiative to paint Rietvlei Senior Secondary School as part of giving back, has been kindly welcomed.

Rietvlei High School Alumni conducted a visit to the school recently to restore pride and improve the learning environment by painting both the inside and outside of the buiding.

According to Mbewana Mthunzi, the organiser, their return to the school was not only to witness the progress of painting but also to engage directly with learners.

He said that during the visit, the school alumni delivered a motivational talk and encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies and set clear goals for excellence despite challenges.

“As part of this initiative, the alumni have also committed to strengthening the school’s identity and legacy. This includes the improvement and redesign of the school logo to reflect unity, pride and progress,” he added.

He added that work has begun to document and preserve the history of the school to ensure that future generations understand and appreciate the school’s heritage and achievements.

The alumni expressed their appreciation to all donors and supporters who made the initiative possible and encouraged other former learners to contribute towards the ongoing developments of the school.

The school was established in 1972 with temporary accommodation in churches. The construction of permanent buildings began in December 1975 and was completed within 12 months.

However, in 1984 tragedy struck when the administration block was destroyed by arson. The incident disrupted the functionality of the school at the time. 

Throughout its history,  Rietvlei Senior Secondary has remained vibrant and dynamic, deliberately fostering activities to improve teaching and learning.
