THE rural communities of Nciniba and Dinana in the Umzimvubu Local Municipality were finally connected to electricity following successful installation of the High Voltage (HV) line by Eskom that paved the way for the connection of the Medium Voltage (MV) line to these two villages.

The recent connection benefited 470 households in both villages. Umzimvubu Local Municipality said the electricity delivery has brought meaningful change to households and contributed towards the improvement of better living conditions.

The municipality further said that the milestone also represents an important step in their ongoing efforts to expand access to basic services and ensure that communities, particularly those in rural areas, benefit from essential infrastructure and development. Mayor Zukiswa Ndevu thanked the community for their patience and acknowledged the role played by communities in ensuring that the process could reach this important milestone, noting that the successful delivery of services requires cooperation between communities, government and implementing partners.

“We know that was not always easy, and our people have waited patiently for this important service. Today, we can celebrate this significant milestone as 470 households now have access to electricity and are connected to the national grid,” she said.

The municipality thanked Eskom and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion and energisation of the project.
