SLAIN police constable Ntlahle Tyali was laid to rest at a sombre funeral service at St Augustine in Tsolo last weekend. Constable Tyali tragically died in the line of duty while attending the scene of an attempted robbery on September 18 in Sikhobeni in Libode.

Tyali was with his colleague, Warrant Officer Magoxo, of the Mthatha National Intervention Unit.

They were gunned down and their service pistols were stolen. During the funeral service, police acting component head for Public Order Policing, Brigadier Mokoena, described Constable Tyali as a disciplined police member who was committed to serve his community. SAPS Eastern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata, said the death of Constable Tyali was a reminder of the dangers that confront police officers every time they put on the uniform and answer the call of duty.

“At an age when many young people are still building their careers, pursuing their dreams and making plans for the future, Constable Tyali has already made a profound commitment to the safety and security of others,” he said.

Tyali completed various courses within the police service, which included: Domestic Violence Learning Programme, Vulnerable Groups Learning Programme, Crime Prevention Learning Programme and Street Survival: Legal Principles. He was killed after he served SAPS for three years.

SAPS extended their deepest condolences to his family. His colleagues were reminded not only to mourn, but also to remember his commitment, and that his service must always remind them why they chose this profession. The police have committed to bring perpetrators of violence against police members to justice through lawful and professional policing.
