THERE are five months to go until this year’s Ntabankulu Horse Racing and Fashion Show event themed Butterfly Bliss in the small town of Ntabankulu in the Eastern Cape.

The event, set to be the one of most memorable editions, will take place on November 7, and is anticipated to position itself as a premier cultural and tourism attraction while drawing visitors from across South Africa and beyond.

It was recently launched by the Ntabankulu Local Municipality with Mayor Vuyokazi Matwasa highlighting its significant socio-economic impact. She said that it has become more than a ceremony but a catalyst for economic growth, tourism development and job creation.

“Every year, we witness local entrepreneurs, accommodation establishments, food vendors, artists, crafters and small businesses benefitting from the influx of visitors and investment into our region. We are proud to see Ntabankulu and neighbouring communities growing and developing through initiatives such as this,” she stated.

Horse racing in most rural villages of the Eastern Cape has been common not only for profit but for entertainment during holidays and weekends. In the Ntabankulu area, horse racing is often known to attract communities and small vendors. Ntabankulu Local Municipality manager Ivy Sikhulu Nqwena mentioned the value of the Ntabankulu Horse Racing and Fashion Show in driving local economic development and fostering community partnerships. “Events of this magnitude continue to add immense value to Ntabankulu Local Municipality and the surrounding areas. They create platforms for collaboration, entrepreneurship, tourism promotion and community development. There is a growing need for all businesses, stakeholders and community members to work together in building a stronger and more prosperous future for all. As we grow, we must remain committed to our corporate social responsibility and ensure that development benefits every member of our community,” Nqwena said.

The municipality confirmed that preparations are underway to make sure that this year’s horse racing event receives an influx of visitors from fashion enthusiasts to horse racing supporters.
