ANC shakes up structural leadership in Kokstad

Andile Moshoehoe

HARDLY a week after the ANC general secretary Fikile Mbalula announced sweeping changes to the Harry Gwala Regional Task Team (RTT), the newly reconstituted structure has already asserted its authority through decisive organisational action.

The newly appointed RTT wasted no time in convening a pivotal regional engagement in Kokstad, bringing together branches to elect the sub-regional task team following the lapse of its six-month tenure. This intervention prioritised the Greater Kokstad sub-region, long plagued by deep-seated factional divisions and the destabilising emergence of parallel structures that had effectively paralysed organisational programmes.

Held at the Bhongweni Youth Centre, the meeting, led by RTT convenor Cythia Ntabeni, navigated heightened tensions with measured authority, ultimately steering proceedings towards constructive dialogue and unity. The engagement sought to lay the foundation for a credible and functional sub-regional leadership capable of unifying members and preparing the organisation for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 4.

Beyond its immediate outcomes, the gathering marked a decisive intervention aimed at restoring organisational discipline, reinforcing internal cohesion and mobilising branches behind a shared political mission.

It forms part of a broader renewal programme to ensure that the Greater Kokstad sub-region is anchored in legitimate and effective leadership structures.

At the heart of the deliberations was the imperative of reconciliation. Through principled engagement and collective introspection, the meeting succeeded in rebuilding trust and reaffirming unity within the movement. The era of parallel structures has now been firmly consigned to the past, signalling a new chapter of organisational stability.

The newly constituted Greater Kokstad sub-regional task team includes Samkele Nondize (convenor), Monde Nondabula (deputy convenor), Thoneka Mngonyama (coordinator), Sibusiso Phuzi (first deputy convenor), Nokuphila Mda (second deputy convenor) and Thandazile Vumijojo (treasurer).

Additional members are: Phumzile Nocanda, Thozama Mjoli, Chuma Mqedlane, Nonkosi Mpanda, Sindiswa Duma and Khaya Xorile.

The RTT convenor Qiniso Mnguni has expressed sincere appreciation to all branches for their responsiveness and commitment in attending the engagement at short notice.

He reaffirmed that the task team will intensify its outreach programme across all sub-regions to consolidate unity, deepen organisational renewal and ensure collective readiness for the impending electoral contest.

The ANC is scheduled to host a volunteer gathering at Shayamoya sports ground in Kokstad on Saturday, May 9.
