THE transitional journey to becoming marathon contenders has been exciting and achievable for the Greater Kokstad Municipality manager Sipho Zwane as well as Bheki Mtolo, a politician and former municipality mayor of Kokstad.
The duo recently participated in the Orcas Ultra Marathon in Durban. Mtolo completed the 10.9km race at 1:11 while Zwane completed the gruelling 50km race at 7:55.
Both Zwane and Mtolo’s running journey started with casual jogging.
It later turned out to be more competitive, mostly inspiring and motivating other municipal employees such as Samora Madikizela and Mthokozisi Zulu.
Their enthusiasm for running was witnessed during the MM’s fun run event in January where many beginners participated to build endurance and structure their own training plans.
Now, beginners can continue to carry forward the spirit of discipline through running and excellence nurtured by the initiative.
