MATATIELE Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape has introduced contractors to improve road networks in Ward 12 and Ward 14.

Municipal mayor Patrick Stuurman announced the construction of a 3.5km Skhutlong access road as well as the rehabilitation of the 4.6km Motsing access road.

He stressed the importance of the projects as not just gravel and concrete but pathways to opportunities.

He noted that the roads will improve access to schools, clinics and essential services as part of investing in the dignity and future of every household.

He said the projects will go beyond construction, as they are expected to create temporary job opportunities within the communities.

He reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to progressively address service delivery challenges and respond to concerns raised by residents as resources become available.

“This initiative is a direct response to community concerns and the municipal executive committee also plans to focus on other wards,” he stated.

The Skhutlong access road is scheduled to take six months to complete, while the Motsing project will be completed within eight months.
